THE STORY

A life that shaped
the culture.

E-LOVE (Earl Matthias Jr.) was born April 11, 1965, to parents from Antigua & Barbuda. Born in St. Thomas before relocating to New York, he became a key figure in hip-hop culture. Growing up in Queens, he developed a lifelong friendship with LL COOL J and became a creative collaborator during the early Def Jam era.

He was influential enough to become the silhouette featured in Public Enemy's iconic logo—helping shape one of the most important periods in hip-hop history.

Beyond music, E-LOVE became a filmmaker, entrepreneur, VR gaming producer, cannabis innovator, philanthropist, and mentor. His vision continues through a future nonprofit dedicated to empowering underserved artists.
